Reflections Eco-reserve is a family owned and run self catering nature reserve based on Rondevlei. We have an active land rehabilitation programme in place and have so far cleared 26 hectares of alien vegetation. The indigenous vegetation is already thriving and each new season produces new plant highlights and furthers our goal of greater plant diversity.
We are surrounded on 3 sides by the Garden Route National Park and are in an area of spectacular natural beauty. We are inspired to be as environmentally friendly as possible. All our power is derived from solar and wind as well as each house having its own solar geyser. All guests are encouraged to use natural and bio degradable shower and bath products to prevent contamination of ground water.
Reflections Eco-reserve is the perfect getaway. Great swimming beaches are 15 minutes away, as well as beautiful forest walks, mountain bikes, canoeing, golf and awesome birding. Our bird count so far exceeds 140 species, including a breeding pair of African Fish Eagle that provides year round spectacular viewing. Birding in the greater area the species count exceeds 200 and includes many endemic species. We have our own S.A.T.O.U.R and F.G.A.S.A registered guide who is a very keen birder and can assist you in this area.
Tim and Angelique have a combined 22 years experience in hospitality and guiding and look forward to welcoming you to our paradise.
Healing the land
We have an active land rehabilitation programme in place and have so far cleared 26 hectares of alien vegetation. The indigenous vegetation is already thriving and each new season produces new plant highlights and furthers our goal of greater plant diversity.
The aim of our reforestation programme is to assist nature in returning this land back to its original state while using the processes of nature to off-set our Carbon Dioxide. Trees assist with the control of atmospheric Carbon Dioxide by incorporating it into their structure. This helps lower the amount of Carbon Dioxide that is influencing climate change.
Large areas of the Garden Route have been swamped by invasive alien tree species. In order to assist in combating this we have cleared 29 hectares of Pine and Wattle trees and have begun planting the indigenous trees that used to occur. These are tree species that need very little water to survive as well as providing far more habitat to birds, insects and mammals. To date we have planted nearly 900 trees on Reflections Eco-Reserve. All our trees are sourced from an empowerment programme for previously disadvantaged communities. Planting trees benefits animals, humans, our communities and the environment.
If you would like to assist us in our aim to reduce carbon emissions while creating bio-diversity, we would be happy to plant trees on your behalf.
Each tree costs R45
This includes follow up watering as well as any maintenance that is needed. When you consider that 1 tree processes Carbon Dioxide in 18 million cubic metres of air and fixes 2500kg of pure carbon as well as supplying 1 person with oxygen for 20 years, it is a small cost.
