Walking trail
Put on your walking shoes and enjoy an easy 3,5km trail through the rehabilitated Cape coastal fynbos on the reserve along a level path. Along the way you will be able to visit a late Stone Age site, a fascinating way to explore the history of the area. Relax, breathe in the fresh air and enjoy nature at her best! If you are a keen birder, don’t forget your binoculars!
Picnics and sundowners
Your deck is perfect for a picnic or sundowners, or you could venture out for a short walk to the Rondevlei and set up your picnic on the banks of the lake. The Garden Route is known for its spectacular sunrises and sunsets, and there are many viewpoints in the reserve which will show off this spectacular display of nature to its best vantage.
Birding
There are over 250 species of birds in the Garden Route. Keep your binoculars and your bird book handy because on Reflections Eco Reserve there is a wide range of habitats including wetlands, coastal bush and fynbos which are host to many of these species. Don’t be surprised if you are awakened by the cry of fish eagles!
Reflections Eco-Reserve in Wilderness, just 4,5 hours from Cape Town, is located on the Rondevlei and surrounded by the Garden Route National Park. It has access to it all: beaches, forests, mountains, birding and fantastic walks are all very accessible from the reserve.
The Rondevlei is part of a series of estuarine lakes that contribute in a large way to the Garden Route’s fame as South Africa’s favourite holiday destination. As a designated Ramsar site no boating or fishing is permitted. This ensures a tranquil and peaceful environment with fantastic birdlife. Besides nesting resident Fish Eagles we boast about 140 species of birds as well as Cape clawless otter, water mongoose, caracal, bushpig, grysbok and grey duiker.
